In this day and age, so many of our lives revolve around using our phones, computers, tablets, and so many more. We often forget how often we are using these devices. After keeping track of how often I used these devices, I found things that both surprised me and things that didn't really surprise me. I also found things that I wanted to change. I thought that I sent a lot of text messages but after looking at my tallies I found that I only had a range from less than thirty to fifty for each day. I actually spent more time talking on the phone and skyping my friends. What didn't surprise me was how often I was using social media, listening to music, and checking my phone to see what time it is.
Often I am stressed and a big contributor to this is feeling like I don't have enough time in my day. When I evaluated how often I was checking what was new on Facebook and Instagram, it caught my attention. Spending less time on social media would give me more time in my day to get things done. I also found that listening to music while doing homework can be a distraction sometimes.
With this assignment, I found that forcing myself to evaluate my digital use helped me to open my eyes and see how often I am on my phone and my computer. This made me want to change many of the bad habits that I have. Instead of going on social media and seeing what everybody is doing, I could go out and talk to someone that I don't know or someone that I do know and talk to them about what they did today. In a world so revolved around technology, just think if everyone had to evaluate their digital use. Their eyes might be opened too.
I agree with you. This homework helps us know how the technology influence our life. We used a lot of time with our phones, computers and other technology, but may forget to communicate with others.
ReplyDeleteI agree with how you said that spending less time in the digital world would give you more time to accomplish things during the day. I came to the same realization from my digital diary.
ReplyDeleteI think its natural that people want to stay connected to social media but I also see what your saying with how much time we spend actually checking a day. This assignment was a wakeup call for me as well.
